It was recently announced that the UK’s Communication Providers will be upgrading all customers from the existing analogue phone service to an enhanced IP service, with the plan to fully migrate to a digital phone service by the end of 2025.

As part of the nationwide upgrade, trials have been taking place since December 2020 with exchanges due to roll out in June 2021, October 2021, January 2022 and beyond.

What does this mean for your business?

The change will affect anything that currently plugs into the existing analogue telephone wall sockets, including integral fire and security signalling systems and Telecare Dispersed Alarms.

Who does the Telephone Network Upgrade affect?

The Telephone Network Upgrade will render all analogue or copper communication lines useless, meaning any organisation or domestic property whose fire and security monitoring currently relies on those lines as a means of exchange will be vulnerable once the upgrade has been completed.

How will I find out when the exchange is taking place in my area?

End-users will receive a letter from their telephone line provider notifying them that their local exchange is being upgraded to All IP and a Smart Router is on the way which will replace their master phone socket.

There may be an option to rewire the signalling system to the new Smart Router, however this is disruptive and has an unreliable power source.

Upgrade to Dual Path 4G and IP Fire and Intruder Monitoring

If your current alarm system relies on a telephone line to send fire and intruder signals to the Alarm Receiving Centre, these will be closed down and out of use by 2025 as part of the UK’s All IP Programme.

Sovereign Fire & Security can provide systems which use Dual Path 4G and IP technology to overcome this threat, monitoring your system 24/7 and signalling the Alarm Receiving Centre.

Using single and dual path solutions for fire and intruder to ensure instant connectivity and communication. Sovereign Fire & Security offers solutions from CSL DualCom and BT Redcare providing faster installation of professional signalling systems with even greater resilience.
